Have you always wanted to take music lessons or theatre classes?

Providence College now offers individual lessons and theatre classes to children, teens and adults through the new Providence Performing Arts School. By collaborating with the Music and Theatre departments, the school is able to offer excellent instruction through the highly trained college instructors.

We are pleased to offer lessons and classes to the greater Providence communities, including the districts of Hanover and De Salaberry.

All lessons and classes will be offered at Providence College in Otterburne, Manitoba.

CLASSES OFFERED BY THE PROVIDENCE PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL INCLUDE:

Music: Individual instruction

Voice
Piano
Guitar
Cello
Trumpet
Brass Instruments
and more may be available upon request

The cost of lessons vary depending on the instructor, length of lessons and number of lessons. However, you can expect to pay between $15-$25 per 1/2 hour. There is an annual registration fee of $40 for new students and $30 for returning students.

Lessons begin the week of September 12th. Lesson times will be determined once applications have been submitted and will be worked out with the instructor and the student.

Music: Jazz Band 

This advanced music ensemble meets weekly beginning on September 15th to April 5th (approx. 20 classes total). The groups consists mainly of university students, however older community members are welcome. Come and learn to play Jazz with a group of fun musicians!

Auditions for 2011-2012 season are closed.  Thanks for coming out!

Other ensembles may be available upon request. Call us if you have an idea or a group of students who would like to be taught in a group setting and we will do our best to find an instructor for you.
 

Theatre: Child & Youth Classes


Acting Extravaganza (Ages 7-9)
Explore the fascinating world of acting! Use props and costumes to create stories with your fellow actors.  Heavily game-based, this class reminds us why a theatrical production is called a play.  A final performance will be held at the completion of the term.

Extreme Acting (Ages 10-12)
Dive deeper into the world of acting and theatre with this exciting class.  Learn how you can use your voice, body and creativity to take your acting skills to new heights!  Work with your fellow actors to bring to life stoies that stand out on stage.  A final performance will be held at the completion of the term.

Dance Classes
 

Beginner Ballet (Ages 8-10)
Discover the joy of classical ballet!  Develop your strength and flexibilty as a dancer while building your vocabulary and skills as you work toward a year-end performance of the famous classical ballet Swan Lake.  Emphasis of the class is on cultivating creativity, improving technique and enjoying the art of dance.

Liturgical Dance: for all ages and abilities
Explore dance as a form of prayer and worship and use your body to express your spirituality.  Learn to develop your own style as an expression of your unique embodiment, as well as how to move with others as a group.  Performance in local churches is an option in the second term.

New! - Visual Arts Classes


Drawing Studio for adults and teens 12 and up

Engage your drawing skills in a stimulating studio environment.  Using media such as pencils, conte, pastels and graphite you will develop your ability to depict various objects and scenes.  Individual interpretations will be encouraged and all abilities are welcome.  Space is limited to 10 students per class.  Students will need to purchase their own supplies. (Supplies can be purchased in the bookstore on teh day of the class!)

Saturdays 11:30-2:30

  • Term 1: November 19 and November 26    $60*
  • Term 2: January 28 and February 4           $60*
    *Register for both terms and pay only $100 (plus $40 registration fee - if required) or try once for $35.
