People Under the MicroscopeWhat kinds of questions are you asking from your education? The subject matter of the social sciences is people – all human thoughts and actions in life, all human experiences and expressions of life. The social scientific method of studying people is empirical, combining both logic and systematic observation, in contrast to the humanities. We stand on the shoulders of all the great thinkers, scientists, and actors who have shaped human cultures, and are accountable to them, to our contemporaries, and to future generations.
Hear from a Providence Social Science Graduate Stephanie Kroeker graduated from Providence University College in 2008 with a B.A. in Social Sciences. She then worked as a domestic violence counsellor in a women's shelter, until deciding to pursue a Master's degree in Gender Studies at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England. Just before leaving for her further studies in the fall of 2011, she reflected on what studying social sciences at Providence had done for her.
