Culture in the Petri Dish

What kinds of questions are you asking of your education?

If you are interested in how people perceive of themselves and others as human beings, humanities is for you.  If you enjoy critical thinking, reading, history, or the fine arts like music and theatre, you will enjoy the humanities.  If culture is your thing, humanities is for you.

The humanities are the core of a classic liberal arts education, those disciplines that first formed the curriculum of university education. Their subject matter is people – all human thoughts and actions in life, all human experiences and expressions of life. Their methods of studying people, in contrast to the social sciences, are those of history, literature, philosophy, music, and theatre. We stand on the shoulders of all the great thinkers, writers, and artists who have shaped human cultures, and are accountable to them, to our contemporaries, and to future generations.

The study of the humanities enables students to develop their critical understandings and appreciations of human nature, knowledge, values, interaction, societies, struggles, and achievements. This program is designed to equip students with a broad understanding of human life and thought, an awareness of methods, topics, and trends in the humanities, and an advanced ability to think analytically, critically, and creatively.
