Faith Seeking Understanding

Men and women from more than twenty countries come to Providence College and Seminary for university education and evangelical ministry training.

Providence is a Christian academic community in the evangelical tradition that teaches people to grow in knowledge and character for leadership and service. With Saint Anselm, Providence follows the principle of fides quaerens intellectum, “faith seeking understanding.” In addition to our 500 students, 31 faculty, and 50 staff, many people partner with Providence as volunteers and by investing their financial resources in our mission.

Providence is three schools in one location thirty minutes south of Winnipeg, Manitoba on a 100-acre campus nestled on a small river.

Providence College is the oldest Christian College in Manitoba. It began in 1925 as a non-denominational theological college in the city of Winnipeg. In 1972 the college moved to a campus in Otterburne, taking over the facilities of a former Catholic residential school. As a small liberal arts college in the evangelical tradition the goal of academics at Providence is to integrate knowledge of the natural and social environment with a Christian understanding of life in this world. Providence Alumni make an impact as public and private school teachers, teachers of English to speakers of other languages in Canada and other countries, airplane pilots, operators of small businesses, and media specialists. Many undertake further study at public universities, seminaries, and in professional certifications. We offer students assistance in achieving course transferability into these institutions.

Providence Theological Seminary began in 1972. It offers fully accredited ministry training at the masters and doctoral levels and thus it serves the church in the accomplishment of its mission. Graduates serve in the church and in para-church organizations such as counselling centres, youth ministries, and mission organizations.

The Providence English Language Institute is housed in the Student Life Centre. It teaches English language skills to foreign students at three levels in preparation for academic study in both the College and the Seminary.

Educational experience at Providence is characterized by diversity. More than twenty countries are represented in the student body each year from a variety of Christian denominations. A Providence education builds bridges to those of other cultures and faith histories. Students are encouraged to become stronger in their own tradition by learning to understand and respect those of other traditions.
