What to Bring

The following is a checklist of items that you will need to bring with you when you travel to Providence College and Seminary. This is not intended as a complete checklist of personal items to bring but rather a list of items that are required to complete your trip to Canada and get you started. Most or all personal items can be purchased in Canada; please note that Canadian electrical code is 120v at 60Hz whereas most other countries outside of North America are 240v at either 50Hz or 60Hz. This means that your electrical appliance items may not work in Canada or may need special adaptors.

Immigration and Travel Documents

• Passport,

• Study Permit (or Letter of Introduction from Canadian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate); a Study Permit is not required if you plan to study a short term program of less than 6 months,

• Temporary Resident Visa (a TRV is required if your citizenship is from a designated country, see Citizenship and Immigration's website),

• Proof of finances (bank statement or letter from supporters),

• Acceptance letter from Providence,

• Marriage certificate (if you are married). 

Travel Arrangements

• Travel Health Insurance to provide health coverage until your first day of classes,

• Plane ticket complete with confirmation numbers to allow easy check-in,

• A list of emergency telephone numbers. 

Driving

• Driver’s License from your home country (you are able to drive with your existing licence for the first 3 months of your stay in Canada),

• International Driver’s License (an IDL does not permit you to drive in Canada however it provides a legal translation of your licence into English which you will need if you want to obtain a Manitoba Driver's Licence),

• Korean students should bring a "Certificate of Driver’s License" issued by the Korean National Police Agency. 

Items to Bring for your First Week in Canada (there will be opportunity to shop for personal items during Orientation, however to make your first few days at Providence more comfortable we suggest you bring the following with you):

• Pillow,

• Sheets and blanket,

• Towel ,

• Shampoo,

• Soap,

• Toothbrush and toothpaste,

• Hygiene products,

• Coat (if you are arriving for the Winter Semester).

Special Items from your Home

• Photos of your family and friends,

• Traditional clothing from your culture,

• Traditional stories or songs to share.
